Wednesday Trip Day 1

Notes:

Traveled to Airport, flew to Chicago. Nic picked me up and we went to lunch and had our 1-1 at Moretti's. We reviewed:

Wednesday:

Personnel discussion (Brief) – Wed afternoon / lunch

    • Mark
    • Jose
    • Ricky
    • Christopher
  • On-Call and Fleet Vehicle Discussion – TAMs

We reviewed all of these items. This was mostly to get up to date on company car use and on-call issues. I gave my advice, we discussed, and were aligned to review with the managers that evening. There was some discussion regarding the boot camps and getting testing done as well as initiative process/protocols being written out. Chris submitted one that was not aligned, Nic had given him some guidance, and Chris' new version was much better. It sounded like no one else really completed theirs in Q1 except Chris, but partial drafts were submitted. They have moved to Q2 goals for completion. I am thinking I may need to be more involved in this, if Nic will let me do that/manage that.

Sales (Core Focus of Trip) – Wed afternoon / office

    • Agenda below

Reviewed the Agenda briefly and said we would focus on that during the rest of the trip.

Project Management – Resource Utilization – Wed afternoon / office

    • Dive deeper into utilization of resources
    • Process for managing resources / project meeting cadence
    • Doug/Wes Discussion – need constant follow-up on time tracking and submission
    • Mark’s time on project management vs. quoting

We dug into this some – I will queue this up for more discussion on our future 1-1s. Biggest thing we dug into here was taking some of these guys to the "woodshed" – they need to grow up – they have homes – bills – kids – and they need to do their job.

Overview of YTD, Metrics, and initiatives

    • Will discuss with Ricky, Mark, Jose, and George

We then went to meet the managers (except Chris) for dinner at Harey Careys. We tried to keep it "appreciative" to the employees so they knew we were thankful for their work. But we did do quite a dive into:

– Use of Company Vehicles – my advice is – they need to be used – the office should be rome and rome is the center of the world. The use of the company vehicles is to become part of the culture.

– On-Call – my advice is – all technical people need to be on call – if we need to revise the HR docs/job descriptions to reflect this then so-be-it. While we are at it we need to add "And any other tasks, assignments, or requirements from senior leadership".

-Overall accountability and ownership – We need to have these "woodshed" discussions going forward from above.

The evening went smoothly, I felt everyone left very aligned.

Action Items:

Add some of the project management resource utilization items to standing discussions with Nic.

Address some of this as well as possible at Team meeting friday.
